Role-play - Buying clothes

Practise taking part in a conversation in a clothes shop. Read the instructions and prepare what you will say.

Scenario

You are in a clothes shop and want to buy something. Respond to the questions the shop assistant asks and address them as vous. They will start the conversation.

The questions give an idea of what might be asked, so use these to prepare. Where there is an exclamation mark (!) a surprise question will be asked and where there is a question mark (?), you will need to ask a question yourself.

Vous parlez avec un vendeur/une vendeuse dans un magasin de vêtements en France.

Salesperson - Bonjour, je peux vous aider ?

Customer - Oui, je voudrais une chemise, s’il vous plait.

Salesperson - De quelle taille?

Customer - Petite.

Salesperson - Bon. Et de quelle couleur ?

Customer - Je préfère une chemise blanche.

Salesperson - Quand allez-vous porter la chemise ?

Customer - Je vais porter la chemise au collège.

Salesperson - Ah, d’accord.

Customer - À quelle heure ferme le magasin ?

Salesperson - À dix-sept heures.

Customer - Merci.

Translation:

Salesperson - Hello, can I help you?

Customer - Yes, I would like a shirt, please.

Salesperson - What size?

Customer - Small.

Salesperson - Good. And what colour?

Customer - I prefer a white shirt.

Salesperson - When are you going to wear the shirt?

Customer - I’m going to wear the shirt to school.

Salesperson - Ah, OK.

Customer - What time does the shop close?

Salesperson - 17:00.

Customer - Thank you.
