Wearing safety equipment in the workshop

There is a range of equipment designed for your safety when operating tools in a workshop.

Clothing

There are clothes and items that you should be wearing when operating machinery. Gloves to protect hands, aprons to protect the torso, googles for eyes protection, and ear defenders to block out harmful noise levels.

Equipment

All machines in a workshop will have guards designed to reduce the risk of contact with moving parts. You should be familiar with how these work before operating the machine.

Machines that require a part, a cutting tool, or a workpiece to be inserted into the machine will have a chuck that is designed to hold the part securely. This chuck should be checked to make sure that it is secure prior to operating the machine.

Vices and clamps will be available in a workshop and should be used to securely hold a workpiece that is to be worked on.
