Saying how often you do something

tous les jours - every day

une fois par semaine - once a week

deux fois par mois - twice a month

régulièrement - regularly

je m’entraine avec l’équipe de foot trois fois par semaine. - I train with the football team three times a week.

Using verbs followed by àorde

Some verbs take à or de after them, eg participer à, profiter de and faire partie de. For example:

• Je participe au club d’échecs. - I participate in the chess club.
• Je fais partie de l’orchestre. - I am a member of the orchestra.
• Je profite des activités culturelles au collège. - I make the most of cultural activities at school.

The verb jouer takes à when referring to a sport or game and de when referring to a musical instrument. For example:

• Je joue au basket/foot/rugby/hockey. - I play basketball/football/rugby/hockey.
• Je joue aux cartes/aux échecs. - I play cards/chess.
• Je joue de la flûte/du violon/du hautbois. - I play the flute/violin/oboe.
