Write back to your friend Isabelle, describing what you do in a typical day.

Here are a few points to include in your answers:

1. Your routine to get ready for school

Write about your routine using a range of verbs including reflexive verbs. Include a range of times but ensure you do not mix digital and analogue times (eg: sept heures moins le quart/six heures trente)

  • pendant la semaine - during the week
  • si je vais à l’école - if I go to school
  • mais - but
  • avant de + infinitive - before I…
  • tout de suite - straightaway
  • je me lève - I get up

2. Your journey to school

Mention what time you leave the house, how you travel, how long your journey is and what time you need to be in school for:

  • je quitte la maison à - I leave the house at
  • je pars à - I leave at
  • je dois être à l’école à … - I must be at school at …
  • l’école commence à… - school starts at…
  • je vais à l’école à pied/en voiture/en bus/en train - I go to school on foot/by car/by bus/by train
  • le trajet dure… - the journey lasts…

You could also include your opinion about how you travel to school:

  • c’est loin - it is far
  • c’est près - it is near
  • c’est rapide/confortable/pratique - it is fast/comfortable/practical
  • je n’aime pas trop ça - I don’t really like that

3. What you usually do at lunchtime at school

Write about your lunchtime arrangements and give your opinions about food and entertainment at lunchtime:

  • l’heure du déjeuner - lunchtime
  • la pause - break
  • commencer à - to start at
  • finir à - to finish at
  • en général - usually
  • je mange à la cantine - I eat in the canteen
  • j’apporte un sandwich - I bring a sandwich

  • c’est sympa/cool - it is nice/cool
  • c’est ennuyeux/barbant - it is boring

4. What you do when they go home after school

Write about what you do when you get home and mention your homework, snack and meal arrangements:

  • après l’école - after school
  • je peux + infinitive - I can
  • je goûte - I have a snack
  • je dîne - I have dinner
  • en même temps - at the same time
  • je fais mes devoirs - I do my homework

Include the activities you do in your free time every day and describe how you help with some of the household chores:

  • je sors - I go out
  • je finis mes devoirs - I finish my homework
  • je promène le chien - I walk the dog
  • je fais des tâches ménagères - I do chores
  • je prépare le repas - I make dinner
  • je fais la vaisselle/le ménage - I do the washing-up/the cleaning

5. What you do in the evening

Write about what you do after your evening meal and before you go to sleep. Give times whenever possible.
