The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Formal and informal prayers

The Lord’s Prayer is the most widely known example of a set prayer. Set prayers are formal, written prayers that are often memorised so that they can be recited both publicly and privately. Most denominations of Christianity also have their own collections of set prayers. For example, the is a collection of prayers and orders of service for worship in churches.

Christians also use personal informal prayers, which are more like individual conversations with God. They may be said in private or publicly.
