Understanding factors that impact on performance Physical factors

Mental, emotional, social and physical factors can impact performance positively or negatively. It is important to recognise and develop an understanding of how these factors are presented.

Physical factors

The level of physical performance is dependent on factors such as fitness level, skill level and understanding of tactics and compositions.

Choreographic devices

During creative performances in practices such as dance and gymnastics, consideration should be given to the choreographic devices, which aid in producing a final performance. This may take the form of considering the space and tempo that is developed throughout the performance.

Using different space, whether through different patterns or use of low and high space, will impact the routine by giving it added dimension and making it more attractive to the audience.

Changes in tempo in creative performances will allow different stories or movement patterns to be developed in the performance. Again this will make the performance more varied, expressive and enjoyable.

Agility

Being agile in a performance, such as netball and football will allow the performer to move and turn quickly. This is particularly important in team sports, where having agility to lose a marker or move and turn quickly to get into space will help the performer both support their team in defence and get into attacking situations.

This in turn will have a positive impact on performance, where an attacking opportunity may be successful or where an opportunity to defend situations can be made more effectively.
