When Glen Barker, a budding film maker and train enthusiast, undertook work experience with a Birmingham film production company, he was able to combine his two passions. ![]() Old Moor Street Glen who has Autism and Asperger's Syndrome made a three minute documentary film about Moor Street Station, with the help of the staff from One Small Barking Dog and teaching support staff. Glen's film includes some lovely photos and archive of Moor Street Station. Help playing audio/video A brief history of Moor Street Station (By Glen Barker)Moor Street Station was built by The Great Western Railway to help relieve the pressure on Birmingham Snow Hill Station. ![]() Old Moor Street The Station served as a terminus for trains from Warwickshire and Stratford-Upon-Avon, which were the main lines into Birmingham. Moor Street Station has had many political difficulties. It eventually had most of its services cut in 1972 when many of the services were diverted to New Street Station. ![]() Old Moor Street In the end Moor Street Station served only local trains to Stratford-Upon-Avon and Leamington Spa. Moor Street Station has been granted listed building status, so was not demolished as part of the urban renewal that has been taking place. When Chiltern Railways started a main line service in 1990 from Marylebone Station to Snow Hill Station via Stratford-Upon-Avon and Moor Street, it made Moor Street Station a main line link to London. ![]() Glen and the film crew Moor Street Station has now been renovated, along with many other buildings in Birmingham City Centre, and proudly provides train services to Solihull, Leamington Spa, Stratford-Upon-Avon and London. Moor Street Station serves around 45,000 passengers per year and is a local tourist attraction to many who know its history. Help playing audio/video Glen.
