Leadership around the world

The BBC Leadership Programme aims to help improve leadership skills right across the BBC and is designed to enhance and broaden individual leadership skills, awareness and abilities, whilst building value for money.

It ultimately aims to change the way we approach leadership and will encourage greater synergy in the way people interact across all disciplines and operational areas.

The programme was specially designed in partnership with Ashridge, one of the world's leading business schools, so that people from different BBC divisions and operations, in the UK and around the world, can learn together in a range of ways.

Why?

Through feedback and staff questionnaires, BBC staff in the UK and around the world asked for better leadership.

The BBC Leadership Programme was launched in the UK in September 2003 and in June 2004, the programme was made more accessible to all eligible managers based outside the UK.

This first internationally-relevant programme brought together leaders from across the world, from Japan to New York, Brussels to Nairobi, with delegates representing BBC Global News (BBC World Service, BBC World and BBC Monitoring) BBC Worldwide and BBC News. Since then, three further Around the World cohorts have welcomed leaders from outside the UK to the Leadership Programme.

The principle of BBC Leadership Programme around the world is to make available equivalent leadership development and networking opportunities for all our leaders, wherever they're based, by integrating them into the UK programme.

International leaders bring their stories and experiences to the programme, sharing their unique perspectives on the world in which the BBC operates as a global brand with UK delegates, making the programme a One BBC experience for all leaders.

How?

The BBC Leadership Programmes now offers the opportunity to bring together BBC leaders from different regions of the world and from across the divisions and, with their UK colleagues, so that they can all get together, network and learn from shared experiences.

Leadership around the world

To make it easier to bring our global leaders into the BBC Leadership Programme, internationally-relevant elements are being introduced that will condense some of the core activities into a tighter timescale.

The aim is to help minimise costs and the time away from base, for those based outside the UK, whilst not missing any core elements of the programme.

It means that making this shared experience accessible and relevant to our leaders from outside the UK is now an integral part of the BBC Leadership Programme.
