Caroline
Don't panic! Gaelic follows the English!
My name is Caroline, I come from and live in Switzerland. Why Gaelic is like a spell for me I cannot explain. I just love the sound of it ever since I first heard it sooooooooooo many years back. Since then I try to buy Gaelic music and that is a challenge here in Switzerland ... usually I buy something when I am in Scotland.
I have tried to find a Gaelic teacher here in Switzerland but although there are many Scottish people here... well, none I know speaks Gaelic. I bought some course books but I just gave up after the first few pages. I learn languages by hearing them. Reading Gaelic is very confusing because I know it will be pronounced completely different! I need someone to talk to me. So this internet course is fantastic and very helpful because I hear how it should sound.
I have just successfully finished my first unit. I'm ever so happy to say tapadh leibh!
Thank you so much for this opportunity :-)))
‘S e Caroline an t-ainm a th' orm, agus ‘s ann às An Eilbheis a tha mi. Chan urrainn dhomh innse dhut carson a tha Gàidhlig cho tarraingeach dhòmhsa. Tha gaol agam air an fhuaim Gàidhlig on a chuala mi e bliadhnaichean air ais. An uair sin, bidh mi a' feuchainn ri ceòl Gàidhlig a cheannach, ach tha sin doirbh ri dhèanamh anns An Eilbheis. Dh'fheuch mi tidsear a lorg anns An Eilbheis ach ged a tha tòrr dhaoine Albannach an seo, chan eil mi eòlach air duine sam bith le Gàidhlig. Fhuair mi cùrsaichean leughaidh ach sguir mi as dèidh beagan dhuilleagan. Tha e uabhasach doirbh a bhith a' leughadh anns a' Ghàidhlig, oir tha fios agam gum bi na fuaimean Gàidhlig gu tur eadar-dhealaichte. Feumaidh duine a bhith a' bruidhinn rium. Mar sin, tha an cùrsa air an eadar-lìon dìreach mìorbhaileach agus gu math cuideachail oir tha na fuaimean rin cluinntinn. Tha mi dìreach air Unit 1 a chrìochnachadh agus tha mi cho toilichte tapadh leibh a ràdh.
