I really wanted to use this opportunity to hone in on individuals who face tension in their respective creative industry.
50:50 The Pitch - Photography
The following work is an example of what we love to do at 50:50 The Equality Project – working together to generate innovation, creativity and opportunities for new voices and talent.
It was a simple brainstorm with Jane Barnwell, Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Media Practice at University of Westminster, that led to 50:50’s first venture into photography. During the coronavirus pandemic there had been a lack of work experience options for her students, and at 50:50 we were looking for a new innovative way to showcase the 50:50 New Voices Database.
This led us to hold a competitive pitch for University of Westminster students to create a portrait series of subjects that could, or have, signed up to the 50:50 contributors’ database. The brief, set by 50:50’s Sarah Holmes, also required students to demonstrate they would work safely under the COVID-19 restrictions that were in place at the time of the shoots.
50:50 will hold further photography pitches soon for the whole 50:50 University Network.
