Town centre sex shop rejected
Charles Street, Wrexham
Charles Street has been recently renovated
Plans to open a sex shop in a redeveloped area of Wrexham have been turned down after criticism from local business owners and residents.

Applicant Kevin Mitchell had asked local councillors to allow him to open the adult store on Charles Street.

The road is home to a number of specialist boutiques and gift shops.

More than 1,000 people signed a petition lodging their concerns over the proposal and on Monday evening councillors threw out the application.

Jeanette Huckle owner of Squires, a gift shop on the street, she said there is already an adult shop on a nearby road.

Sex shop, Wrexham
Councillors will allow only one adult shop

"I'm relieved that the council have turned the sex shop down because Charles Street is an attractive area.

"I think the sex shop around the corner is sufficient for Wrexham at this time.

"It would seem a shame to have one shop on the street all boarded up with adults only on the front," she said.

Wrexham council's local policy stipulates they will only allow one sex shop within the town centre, which they already have.
