| Monday, 16 September, 2002, 09:52 GMT 10:52 UK Marina conversion brings hotel luxury ![]() A former harbour building has been used for the hotel A dilapidated building on Swansea's waterside has undergone a 2.5m conversion into a luxury hotel employing 50 people. Morgans has been built with a view to attracting business clients as well as providing the city with two high class restaurants.
The building in the marina replaces a site which had lain unused for 12 years. The project is the brainchild of husband and wife team Martin and Louisa Morgan - who claim the hotel is unique as far as Swansea is concerned. "We wanted to create a hotel of distinctive character that the whole city could be proud of," said Martin Morgan. "It's really rewarding to see our original concept come to reality.
There are 20 bedrooms at the hotel and two restaurants - Dermott's which seats 65 and the Plimsoll Line which has room for 30. Each room has been individually designed and has its own identity and are equipped with state of the art technology. The gentlemen's toilet even has a television in it connected to the satellite channels. Conferences Project manager Jill Lewis said: "The aim was to create something that the city had never seen before. "I think we have definitely achieved that goal.
"The hotel can only be good for Swansea as it provides many facilities that have been missing in the past. "For example, we hope the city will be chosen as a venue for conferences in the future. "In fact we see this as a major ongoing project. "We are already looking at other sites in south Wales and further a field with the view of building other hotels and creating more jobs." | See also: 04 Oct 00 | Wales 18 Jul 01 | Wales 09 Sep 00 | Wales Top Wales stories now: Links to more Wales stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
