Stereos tune into fast lane
Kelly Jones
Stereos are to play with motor racing boss Eddie Jordan
The Stereophonics have swapped the headlines for the fast lane this weekend, performing with a music-loving motoring racing chief.

After topping the billing at this year's Glastonbury Festival, the band played a gig with Formula 1 racing boss Eddie Jordan ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The band from Cwmaman, near Aberdare, south Wales, took to the stage at the grounds of Stowe School, Buckinghamshire, with Jordan, the multi-millionaire head of the Jordan racing team.

Jordan already has his own rock band, called V10, and staged a similar event before the German Grand Prix in May.

The concert on Saturday came the day before Jordan's drivers took part in the Silverstone race - Fisichella finished seventh, but Sato failed to finish.

The Stereophonics are used to playing alongside better known music industry names.

At last month's Glastonbury Festival their fellow performers at the event which attracted 120,000 visitors included Coldplay, The Charlatans and Rod Stewart.

Stuart Cable

But Saturday night's performance at the private school is not the only collaboration between music-lover Jordan and the band.

The silver-haired racing chief is expected to be a guest on the chat show which drummer Stuart Cable is launching on the BBC later this year.

Production starts on Tuesday on a series of six shows planned to feature a mix of celebrities, current affairs and new music acts.

Cable caught public attention in March this year when he fronted a BBC Wales social action campaign urging young men to look out for the warning signs of testicular cancer.

The post and television advert initiative, called BLLCKS, aimed to tackle the 1,600 new cases of testicular cancer in Britain every year.
