| Friday, 21 June, 2002, 11:55 GMT 12:55 UK Phonics 'unveiled for Glastonbury' Stereophonics say they are the "mystery guests" The Stereophonics are to headline the second day of the Glastonbury Festival, according to a fans' website for the band. The headliners for Saturday 29 June had remained a secret when the line-up was released on Wednesday. It is though that the south Wales rock trio will be the "mystery guests" playing after The Charlatans on the Saturday, the site says.
Former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters and Stewart are on the bill with newer stars such as Ash and The White Stripes. This year's festival is the first for two years, with security at an all time high to prevent fence-jumping, which could threaten the future of the event. Founder Michael Eavis has spent �1m on a 12ft-high "super fence" but many locals are worried about what will happen if ticketless fans are turned away. This year's crowd of 100,000 paying festivalgoers and 40,000 others will be the biggest official crowd for some years. Main stage As well as a host of leading rock acts, an eclectic hosts of acts will appear on the various stages. Friday's main stage line-up will feature Coldplay, Faithless, Ash, Nelly Furtado, Doves, the Dandy Warhols, Bush, and Alabama 3. On Saturday the main stage will also see the White Stripes, Starsailor, Ian Brown, No Doubt, Jools Holland, Ani DiFranco and Dreadzone. And the last day of the festival will include Rod Stewart, Roger Waters, Isaac Hayes, Badly Drawn Boy and Rolf Harris on the main stage. The three-day festival runs from Friday 28 June to Sunday 30 June. |
