Chris Kays, 30, from Reading was working in Singapore for Berkshire-based engineering company Foster Wheeler. Mr Kays was touring Bali with the Singapore Cricket Club's rugby side when the devastating blast happened. At least 30 British tourists are thought to have been caught up the explosion which has killed about 200 people.
While many families are still desperately waiting for news, some returning tourists have told of their lucky escapes. George and Yoriko Fowler, from Iver, Bucks, were waiting for their 26-year-old son Clyde, who lives in Bracknell and was backpacking across Asia. Mr Fowler said: "We just got a phone call on Saturday night. "He rang and told us he was lucky to be alive and he was injured." He told his parents how he managed to squeeze through a tiny gap to escape the flames - wounding his head and sustaining severe burns on his arm. 'Very scary' Nikki Bloomfield, 27, from Sunninghill, Berkshire, was about five minutes away from the club in her hotel when she witnessed what she thought was a gas explosion. The former business manager was spending five days on the Indonesian island after a month in Australia, said friends described seeing tourists with their limbs missing. "There were live power lines lying on the ground and everyone suddenly turned around and said, 'Run for your lives'. "It was all very scary," she said. "I was cool at the time but it really hit me at the airport in Bali. "There were just people lying around with bandages round their heads and their legs covered in blood." |
