| Monday, 20 January, 2003, 10:34 GMT What we are doing ![]() This web page is part of a BBC News Online effort to explore new ways of covering grassroots civic activity in the UK. We asked our users to tell us of their activities and chose a handful of these campaigns to follow over the next few months. If you want to know more about this experiment, please A diary of events for the next few weeks in the JAM74 campaign. Tue 28 Jan 7.30pm: JAM74 meeting at Govanhill Community Centre, Daisy Street, Glasgow. Open to anyone interested in the campaign. We discuss results of our recent strategy session: moving forward with fly posters, organising demonstration/fringe activity at Labour Party Spring Conference in Glasgow (14-16 Feb), generating plans for upcoming (1 May) Scottish elections, and funding raising activities. Mid Feb: Stall/leaflet, Scottish Labour Party meeting in Glasgow. Although we anticipate that most activists will focus on the potential war in Iraq, JAM74 plans to lobby both activists (for support) as well as those attending conference on massive roads building schemes. Considering a war in the Middle East is at least partially about oil, then there is a clear connection to the increasing dependency on automobiles engendered by more motorways. Late Feb/early March: Fund-raiser with live bands at Stereo, Kelvinhaugh Street, Glasgow. Our first fund-raising event of this type. Tickets are not expensive. Will probably feature two local indie bands of which Glasgow excels in spawning. Date and time TBC. Tue 25 Feb (TBC): JAM74 meeting. Another chance for the community and JAM74 members to be updated on the M74's developments and our efforts. Want to know more? Have any suggestions for the campaigners? Send them a message using the form below. We will pass them on. Disclaimer: The BBC will put up as many of your comments as possible but we cannot guarantee that all e-mails will be published.
