Inquest opens into road death

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward
An inquest has been adjourned into the death of a teenager in a road accident near Newtown in mid Wales.

Samuel Vaughan, who was16 and from Presteigne, Powys, died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital from his injuries following the accident on Thursday.

The accident happened on the A483 Newtown to Dolfor road at 1305 BST when a blue HGV travelling towards Dolfor came into collision with a white Ford Fiesta travelling towards Newtown.

Powys Coroner Geraint Williams opened and adjourned the hearing on Tuesday.

In a separate crash at 0220 BST last Friday on the A44 just outside Aberystwyth on the Loves grove junction.

As a result of the incident near to traffic lights at the junction between the A44 and the A4159 leading to Capel Bangor near Aberystwyth a man was taken to hospital suffering from serious head injuries.

Only one vehicle was involved and the man's condition in hospital was stable, according to a police spokesman.

Witnesses to the Aberystwyth collision are asked to phone Aberystwyth police on (01970) 612791.
