One dead, two injured in air crashes
The crash site
The helicopter crashed in thick fog
Inquiries have begun into separate air crashes in mid and north Wales in which one man died and two were injured.

The pilot of a single-engined Jodel died when the plane came down near Llyn y Fan Fach in the Black Mountains.

His body was flown by RAF helicopter to Singleton Hospital in Swansea for post mortem examinations.

Sergeant Hywell Davies of Dyfed Powys Police said no passengers were in the aircraft.

The plane was found shortly before BST 1800 on Monday by a Dutch holiday-maker walking in the area who raised the alarm.

The crash scene is being preserved overnight before a team of investigators arrive from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch on Tuesday morning.

The Powys coroner has been informed of the death.

Shock

The plane crash happened shortly after a helicopter with two men on board made a forced landing in north Wales.

The pair escaped with minor injuries after the emergency on a fog-covered Snowdonia mountainside.

The privately-owned aircraft ditched in thick mist near a television transmitter between Caernarfon and Porthmadog.

The men were able to put out a mayday call, and walked down the mountainside to a waiting ambulance.

An ambulance spokesman said they were shocked, but only suffered minor injuries and were taken to for hospital treatment in Bangor.
