Wales helps find 1.2m for Pudsey

Two Doctor Whos
The telethon included a preview of the Doctor Who Christmas special

More than a million pounds has been pledged to the BBC Children in Need appeal by people in Wales.

1.2m was raised in Wales - up from 900,000 in 2007 and Friday night's telethon included a preview of the Doctor Who Christmas special.

It also showed the BBC Wales' news team singing as a choir and performing with Only Men Aloud!, winners of the BBC Last Choir Standing talent show.

Across the UK, the amount raised so far is just under 21m.

Torchwood star John Barrowman and BBC presenter Gethin Jones hosted a live Children in Need event at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Performances from McFly, Take That, Girls Aloud and Boyzone were included in the telethon.

Viewers were also given a special edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 21m total raised during Friday night's appeal beat last year's record-breaking 19m.

The grand total last year eventually reached 37m and indications are that this year's total will surpass that.
