UCP manufactures packaging for the drinks industry |
More than 50 jobs are under threat at a drinks packaging firm near Stirling. United Closures and Plastics (UCP), based in Bridge of Allan, said it was in consultation with staff over the future of 55 of its 260 workers. The firm has blamed the situation on a downturn in sales among its major customers and said it was working to reduce business costs. It has now begun a statutory 30-day consultation exercise with union leaders. In a statement the company said: "UCP has engaged in a process of consultation with employee representatives about current working arrangements and levels of employment. "A review has taken place to formulate proposals to reduce costs to a level that the business can support in the light of the reduced sales volumes. "The proposals also include changes to shift working patterns."
