Sergeant for T in the Park locals

Closed car parks
Last year the car parks had to be closed following heavy rain

A dedicated police officer is aiming to help locals deal with any potential fallout from T in the Park.

This is the first year a special liaison officer has been appointed to support those living around the music festival in Balado.

Sgt David Rankine will be dealing with issues such as congestion, littering, and people urinating in the street.

Last year there were massive traffic problems in the area after heavy rain caused car parks to become waterlogged.

'Major event'

Sgt Rankine said: "The event's grown significantly since coming to Balado in 1997 and we feel that it's important that somebody local, like myself, is appointed so that the community have a single point of contact that they can speak to before the event, during the event, and after the event in order to attend to their demands.

"We can't please everybody, it's a major event and it's trying to find a balance.

"Not everybody is happy about it coming here, the majority are, but for some people it is the bane in their life. If we can do anything that can ease that, if I can make somebody's life a bit easier over the event then I will have done my job."

This year's T in the Park runs from 11 to 13 July and is headlined by the Verve, Rage Against the Machine and REM.
