T festival revellers queue early

Eager music fans have started queuing in Dundee for T in the Park tickets, even though they do not go on sale until 0900 GMT on Saturday.

By Thursday afternoon, 11 people were pledging to sleep outside Groucho's record shop for two nights - some fans had been there since 0500 GMT.

Some had blankets and pillows, others just deckchairs and an umbrella.

The line-up for the music festival in Balado in July has not even been announced yet.

The official launch takes place on Friday.

'Bit haywire'

Sixteen-year-old Rachel Swayne said: "I've never been before and all my pals go and it's meant to be really good.

"By tonight the queue will be massive, right back there, so we're guaranteed a ticket."

Her friend, Jenna Gordon, 17, added: "I went to T in the Park the other year and it was really good, so I'll go back this year, and it's the day after my 18th birthday."

She told the BBC Scotland News website that she was not scared about sleeping out in the open.

"I think it'll be a good laugh actually," she said.

"My pals want to come down with a guitar so we'll have a wee jam and it'll be good."

Chelsea McDonald, 15, said she was hoping that Pink, Amy Winehouse, Oasis and Kasabian would be taking to the stage at the festival.

Groucho's proprietor, Alastair Brodie, said he was surprised when he got to work and saw people preparing to camp out.

He said: "Nervous and probably a little bit concerned for people queuing for more than two days to get tickets.

"It's quite cold so I just hope that they're well wrapped up and prepared for the wait.

"We've sold T in the Park tickets over the counter since day one and it was only in the last two or three years it's really gone a bit haywire.

"Last year there was maybe about 300-400 people in the queue and we did have to point out to a lot of people towards the back there wasn't really any chance of getting tickets."

He added that he expects there to be a sizeable queue when he arrives at work on Friday.

A spokesman for the event said: "We're delighted that after 15 years, T in the Park is still so popular.

"However, we would like to advise fans to wrap up warm and look after each other if they are queuing overnight."
