Concerns have been voiced about the impact of the cuts

A public meeting in the Borders has heard parental concerns about the future funding of the region's schools.

Parents voiced fears about the impact of a cut in this year's devolved management budgets and the failure to pledge no further reduction next year.

Council representatives said funds had been made available to reduce the effect on smaller schools.

However, many parents said they were still concerned that further cuts would be made in future.

The public meeting took place at Langlee Primary School in Galashiels.

It was prompted by plans to cut devolved school management budgets by 2% this year.

That move provoked concern among many parents that basic provisions could not be given to pupils.

They pressed for assurances that no further cuts to budgets would be made next year.

Representatives of Scottish Borders Council said they were not in a position to make such a promise.
