Parents fear they might have to provide essential items
Concerned parents in the Borders have voiced fears over the impact of a reduction in school expenditure.

Scottish Borders Council agreed a 2% cut in the spending devolved to individual schools, as part of its budget plans for the year ahead.

Parents told a meeting in Galashiels that the move could mean they will have to supply their children with essential items such as jotters and pens.

The council described such claims as "unhelpful speculation".

It said there was no question of jotters and other essential items not being provided.

SBC has promised to closely monitor any problems which might be caused by the reduction in school budgets.

A meeting of concerned parents took place in Galashiels on Tuesday.

Parents have now requested a meeting with education director Glenn Rodger.
