The council hearing will be open to members of the public

A probe by Scotland's spending watchdog into Aberdeen City Council will take place in May, it has been confirmed.

As earlier revealed by BBC Scotland, the Accounts Commission hearing will start on Tuesday, 13 May, and it will last for two days.

The Accounts Commission will hear first-hand at the Town House from the council to gain "a greater understanding" of its difficulties.

The hearing will be open to members of the public.

The controller of audit's report on best value and community planning at the council had highlighted concerns.

Issues expected to be raised will include the pace of improvement in achieving the council's vision and its financial position.

The commission will report after the evidence-gathering session before publishing its findings, which could include recommendations to Aberdeen City Council and Scottish ministers.

The council's current �27m of cutbacks prompted thousands of protesters to take to the streets at the weekend.
