The meeting on council cuts is causing political debate

Party MPs and MSPs want a public debate at the Arts Centre - on Good Friday.

It comes amid fears budget cuts could lead to as many as 300 redundancies, a figure dismissed by the council.

The SNP and Lib Dems said a public holiday was perhaps not the best day to hold the debate as people may have other arrangements.

Schools, care services and leisure facilities are all earmarked for cutbacks or closure to save �27m.

Aberdeen North Labour MP Frank Doran said what people wanted more than anything was the chance to meet directly with the politicians responsible for such decisions.
