New laws target MPs who fake expenses

The Commons leader Harriet Harman has announced details of a bill that proposes an independent body to regulate MPs' expenses.

The new Parliamentary Standards Authority would take over from the Fees Office and would be able to fine and expel MPs found guilty of wrongdoing.

It could be approved by August.

Ms Harman said the bill acknowledged public anger.
