The County Ground could have a multi-million pound makeover |
Plans to explore the feasibility of redeveloping Swindon Town's County Ground have been approved by the borough council. A cross party motion was passed on Thursday night which paves the way for the club's traditional home to be given a multi-million pound make-over.
Fans petitioned for the club to stay at the County Ground after plans to build a new stadium elsewhere were rejected.
Tony Norris, chairman of Trusts, said: "We are obviously delighted."
The motion includes action to identify other possible locations for the stadium
"If the County Ground is not feasible, and we passionately hope it is, but if not, it's also about looking for an appropriate site for the club as well," said Mr Norris.
"It's actually a very good place to put a football stadium, strangely enough.
"They start talking about trip counts, the number of trips people have to make in cars, and the County Ground is one of the better places, plus it's already there."
