The laboratory in Cancer Research UK's Clinical Centre at St James's Hospital, Leeds, will now be known as the Jane Tomlinson Laboratory.
I thought if I could raise some money, I could help other people in the future |
Mrs Tomlinson officially unveiled a plaque at a naming ceremony attended by her husband Mike and Cancer Research UK scientists and doctors based there.
The centre houses about 150 researchers working in a total of five laboratories looking at various aspects of cancer, including gene therapy, cancer genetics and vaccines.
Professor Peter Selby from the centre said: "Jane is now synonymous with Leeds so it is appropriate that Cancer Research UK has chosen to recognise her here.
Mrs Tomlinson said: "I feel honoured that Cancer Research UK has decided to do this for me.
"I know that my situation means that there is little to benefit me from research, but I thought if I could raise some money, I could help other people in the future."
