One of England's Commonwealth Games gold medallists has been welcomed home with a celebration at the athletics stadium where she trained.

Lisa Dobriskey, 22, from Ashford, was hailed by her supporters at the Julie Rose Stadium, in Kent.

She won the women's 1500m gold in Melbourne, the same track event won by fellow Kent athlete Dame Kelly Holmes in Manchester four years ago.

Ms Dobriskey said she was "really chuffed" to cross the line first.

"In the actual race I sort of got boxed in a little bit and I tripped ever so slightly a couple of times.

"I stepped out quite wide on the last 100 metres and I thought, 'oh God, perhaps I've played it wrong'.

"But in the end my coach was really pleased with it."

Ms Dobriskey added that Dame Kelly was happy to see the middle distance title remaining in Kent.

"I ran it in a similar way to how she races so hopefully she'll be pleased," she said.
