High tech signs for danger road
The crash site
Two men died when their car plunged over the cliff last year
Safety is being stepped up on a Somerset toll road where two men died after driving over a cliff edge.

State-of-the-art warning signs activated by vehicles will be installed on the Kewstoke coast road in December.

It is part of 50,000 worth of changes to the road after Thomas Broomhall and Julian Bowen died last year.

The new go-slow signs are run on wind and solar energy and aim to cut drivers speed - the major cause of accidents on the toll road.

North Somerset Council is also considering placing barriers on the verge at certain locations along the road.

There have been four other deaths in two similar accidents since 1975.

One motorist, Ann Pearson, 49, survived when her sports car came off the winding road last year and plunged on to rocks 50ft below.

The latest addition to the road is a "rumblewave" traffic calming surface which produces noise and vibration within vehicles.
