Trains to return to disused line
Gobowen Station
The Cambrian line links Gobowen with other towns in Shropshire
Trains could be soon running along a currently disused rail line after Shropshire County Council was given permission to buy six miles of track.

The Office of Rail Regulation has given the council permission to buy the Cambrian branch line from Gobowen through Oswestry to Blodwel.

It is negotiating with Network Rail over the deal and the sale should be completed later this year.

The county council has been seeking a partner to operate the railway.

It will now examine a joint proposal from the Cambrian Railways Society and the Cambrian Railways Trust working together to promote the Cambrian Heritage Railways project.

The authority will work with them while negotiations with Network Rail are finalised. There are also plans for a cycle way along the route.

John Everall, county council cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: "I am pleased that the trust and the society have agreed to co-operate on this project bringing their respective strengths and expertise together.

"The opportunity now exists to rejuvenate the disused line for the benefit of Oswestry and the surrounding area."
