Phone masts have sparked protests across the country |
Controversial plans to build a 60ft- high communications tower in north Shropshire have been put on hold. Mobile phone company O2 want to install the mast at the Old Goods Yard, in Station Road, Hodnet.
Nearly 100 residents have objected to the mast saying they are worried it could cause a health hazard and would spoil the landscape.
But councillors agreed on Wednesday evening to put the scheme on hold for one month so the site can be assessed.
A report to the North Shropshire District's planning committee recommended the scheme for approval.
The site is next to another communications mast and the council's head of planning Andrew Venables said after considering all options, it was the best place for it.
The report also said there was no evidence to support the villagers' claims that their health could be endangered.
