The Wrekin may now be sold off in smaller units |
A bid by a consortium to buy a famous landmark has been rejected. The Wrekin, a hill which covers 126 acres and boasts a 1,334ft high peak, was put up for sale for 500,000 by landowner Peter Holt in June.
His agent, Tony Morris Eyton, said the offer from the group, led by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, was less than half the guide price.
The land could be sold off in smaller units. A spokeswoman for the Trust says the fundraising will continue.
Lizzy Fisher said: "We are very optimistic that a revised bid can be put in.
"Obviously that's dependent on the funds we have at the moment and the fundraising plan that we'll need to put in place in order to help that.
"Fundraising isn't just for the purchase of the site itself.
"It is also important that we have reserved funds available in order to pay for the management of the site."
