 Flood levels are beginning to subside in Oxford |
Homes in Oxfordshire affected by weeks of rain have escaped further flooding this weekend after predicted rain storms were less heavy than expected. There had been concerns that any heavy rainfall could cause rivers such as the Thames, Ock, Ray and Cherwell to burst their banks.
The Environment Agency has announced that it is now downgrading all the flood warnings in the county.
Forecasters say England and Wales can expect mainly dry weather this week.
Flood-damaged homes
About 900 homes have been flooded in Oxfordshire since storms hit more than a week ago.
In Oxford about 10 people will spend another night at the Kassam Stadium before they can return to their flood-damaged homes.
About 30 of the evacuees, many of them elderly, were allowed back into their houses on Saturday with the help of the Red Cross and St John Ambulance.
Oxfordshire County Council is now paying for a cleaning company to get the last of the houses in Abingdon and west Oxford ready for the return of the last of the evacuees on Monday.
