Christmas roads warning in summer
A council has proved that Christmas does seem to come earlier every year by launching their festive drink-driving campaign at the height of summer.

Oxfordshire County Council chiefs say they are launching their Yuletide safety campaign in July to get the message across as early as possible.

They have defended the early timing by pointing to the number of Christmas party bookings made in the summer.

They want hotels to include a campaign leaflet in their booking forms.

We need to be straight in there with this very important message from day one
Cllr David Robertson
Cllr David Robertson, the council's roads boss, said: "It may seem a strange time to be talking about Christmas when only recently the government launched a summer drink-driving campaign with Thames Valley Police and ourselves.

"However, we need to start getting this message out now.

"We'll be doing far more than just sending out information with venue bookings.

"But this is the first time people will have thought about Christmas and we need to be straight in there with this very important message from day one."

The Four Pillars hotel group has already agreed to include a flyer with its booking information.
