Police cycle patrols are being hailed a success |
Night-shift officers are getting on their bicycles to scour a town's troubled estates, as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour. Over the past few weeks, police cycle patrols have been gaining access to alleyways and pathways in Bicester, that patrol cars cannot get into.
Thames Valley Police is now hailing the clamp down as a success after a number of anti-social behaviour arrests.
The officers, who work in pairs, also carry out searches and random checks.
Sgt Ian Hunter said: "This is not a dedicated cycle unit but simply keen shift officers who want to be effective in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.
"Seeing officers on bikes also is a very reassuring sight for the community, and we have received a lot of positive feedback from them."
Insp Kath Lowe said: "There have been notable successes - with arrests on many different estates where the bikes have actually been the first resource to arrive."
