Officers say bikes help them get around quicker than four wheels |
More police are to go on the beat by bike after a team of officers on cycles helped crack crime on an estate. A fleet of new mountain bikes has been delivered to five Hampshire police stations after the success of a trial on the Mayfield Estate in Farnborough.
Officers say bikes help them reach tricky spots more quickly than cars.
A police spokesperson said: "As an added bonus the bikes have been a hit with local youngsters, giving officers a good chance to talk with them."
The 12 new bikes have been given to beat officers at Aldershot, Farnborough, Yateley, Fleet and Hartley Wintney as part of the force's Safer Streets campaign.
