Top policeman goes back on beat
One of Derbyshire's top policemen has returned to the beat to try to reassure members of the public that more bobbies are coming back to their streets.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Cragon spent Thursday morning touring part of Derby with a community beat officer.

The force is aiming to provide a beat officer for every community in the county and has so far appointed 183.

Thousands of questionnaires have been sent out asking people whether they are happy with their policing service.

Officer details

Mr Cragon said: "Our beat officers do a terrific job every day and it'll be great to see at first hand the sort of work they do when I go out on the beat in Derby.

"We want to provide reassurance to our communities and let the public know we are out on the streets and we are accessible."

In the last month 14,000 questionnaires have been sent out asking people their opinions on their beat officers, whether they know who they are and whether they are satisfied with their service.

The force web site is also currently being updated to include details of beat officers, and posters will be displayed to tell people who their beat officers are.
