CCTV cameras are to be introduced at all of Oxfordshire's waste recycling centres in an attempt to stop fly-tipping and vandals. County council bosses are spending �60,000 on the security equipment for all eight of their centres.
A council spokesman said: "It will help us identify any businesses trying to use the site illegally.
"These unscrupulous traders try to cut costs by dumping rubbish illegally, passing costs on to tax-payers."
County councillor Anne Purse said: "We have to ensure that people are safe and secure while using them and that vandals do not create problems outside working hours."
The installation of the surveillance cameras will be completed by April.
It was recently revealed that 20% of household rubbish is recycled in Oxfordshire, compared with a national average of 13%.
