Police swooped on several homes in a week-long crackdown |
Twenty men and a woman have been charged with drug dealing offences after a week-long crackdown by Nottinghamshire Police. Three suspected drug dealers are still being questioned.
The police raided homes across the city in the second phase of Operation Glacier, seizing drugs and cash worth thousands of pounds.
Following the arrests, a senior policeman called for addicts to get more effective treatment.
'Substantial service'
The city's drug treatment service said it was currently treating half of the estimated 4,000 addicts in Nottingham.
Alan Given, who heads Nottingham's Crime and Drugs Partnership, said more addicts were having treatment than ever before.
"The service we are offering in Nottingham city is substantial - we're looking to get 3,000 people in treatment by March 2008," he said.
"We will expand the service to meet the need - but I don't think it would be appropriate to drag people out of their homes and force them into treatment when we can take on people who are really trying to lead a drug-free life."
