Arson incidents prompt tax rise
Arson attacks on a road in a Notts town are costing all residents in the district an extra 13 in council tax, the local authority says.

Mansfield District Council has already spent nearly 500,000 buying and demolishing properties in Brownlow Road as well as general clean ups.

In the last year 90 fires were started in houses on the street.

The long term plan for the area is to bulldoze all the terrace houses and regenerate the street.

However, currently many houses remain empty and boarded up, which are easy targets for graffiti, fly tipping and arson, say police.

Nottinghamshire Police, the fire service and the local authorities have agreed to take several steps to control the problem.

They are planning to install CCTV and increase police patrols as well as possibly blocking off the end of the road.
