A new task force is being formed after more than 200 arson attacks in one part of Nottingham in the past 12 months. New figures provided by Nottinghamshire Fire Service revealed in the past year 200 fires were started deliberately in just three streets in Bestwood.
Firefighters, police, local councillors and housing officials have joined together to tackle the problem.
The figures also revealed two people died and 58 were injured in 11,443 arson attacks across the county.
Nottingham City Council says the Bestwood Estate is an eyesore and attracts fly-tipping which acts as a magnet for arsonists. As part of the new initiative, more house wardens will patrol the area and there will be increased police anti-social behaviour patrols.
The fire service is also stepping up a campaign to remove rubbish left in the area, in order to reduce the fuel available for fires.
The worst streets for arson in Bestwood are Raymede Drive, Leybourne Drive and Andover Road.
Assistant Divisional Officer John Topham, who is heading up the taskforce, said: "Arson is blighting the estate and is ruining the residents' lives.
"We need to take immediate positive action to stamp out this crime and turn this part of the Bestwood Estate around."
