Furniture and bedding were set alight in the empty downstairs flat |
There are calls for derelict buildings to be made more secure after a flat was targeted by suspected arsonists. The downstairs property on Nottingham's Bestwood Estate had been empty for more than two years when it went up in flames.
Furniture and bedding was set alight in the flat on Greerson Avenue.
But the upstairs flat was actually occupied when the fire broke out on Sunday night.
The young family living there managed to escape.
But residents say there are several empty properties in the area which are attracting problems and something must be done.
