The Bestwood garages were later demolished |
Fire authorities in the East Midlands say their resources are being drained by minor arson incidents. In the latest case in Nottinghamshire - captured on video by a BBC viewer - a Bestwood garage complex was set alight by youths and later demolished.
Figures provided by the fire services show between 10% and 33% of fire call-outs are to minor incidents.
However Neil Colton, from the Nottinghamshire Fire Service, said: "We are starting to win the battle."
Of the fire service's 23,500 call-outs, 10% are to minor incidents.
The problem is worse in Northamptonshire (12,500 call-outs, of which 33% are minor), Leicestershire (19,000 and 25%) and Derbyshire (26,000 and 17%).
