Police target illegal booze sales
Pubs and clubs which sell alcohol to underage drinkers are being targeted by police in the run-up to Christmas.

Officers will visit about 1,000 licensed premises across Nottingham during the three-week campaign.

Pubs and bars that sell alcohol to people who are already drunk will also come under the spotlight.

A similar scheme earlier in 2004 saw one restaurant lose its licence for serving out of hours while others received warnings about their conduct.

Those that do act irresponsibly have to recognise that they are fuelling anti-social behaviour.
Insp Paul Winter, Nottinghamshire Police
Police have told premises outside of the city centre they will also be visited in an expansion of the scheme.

Insp Paul Winter said: "Those that do act irresponsibly have to recognise that they are fuelling anti-social behaviour.

"There is nothing underhand about this campaign, we are being very open about the fact that licensed premises should expect a visit over Christmas.

"Now is the time for managers to make sure their staff know the rules and they comply with the law."
