Police leave cancelled for Ascot
York racecourse
The races are held in York whilst the Berkshire course is redeveloped
Hundreds of police officers will be on patrol at the Royal Ascot of York race meeting, North Yorkshire Police say.

Rest days have been cancelled and a moratorium put on annual leave to make sure the city and other areas are covered by police during the event.

Chief constable Della Cannings said she was conscious that communities elsewhere in the county should not have their services affected.

The meeting, the first time it has been held in York, takes place 14-18 June.

Ms Cannings said: "Hosting such a prestigious event is a tremendous boost for the North.

"Of course it presents challenges but we have been planning for more than a year and I am confident everything that needs to be done has been done, not only by police but by all the relevant agencies involved."

The Ascot races are being held at York while the Berkshire course is redeveloped.
