Promotion plans at royal festival
York racecourse
The races take place from 14-18 June
Almost 650,000 will be spent promoting Yorkshire during the Royal Ascot meeting in York this summer.

Regional development agency Yorkshire Forward wants to take advantage of the 300,000 racegoers expected at the event and television audience of 28m people.

The campaign will showcase York and the surrounding area as a destination for businesses as well as tourists.

This year's Ascot festival is being held in the city while the Berkshire course undergoes a 185m redevelopment.

The five-day event at Ebor is expected to generate an extra 60m for the local economy.

Terry Hodgkinson, chairman of Yorkshire Forward, said: "The potential benefits of staging the meeting are huge, both in the short term and long term."

Having a successful Royal Ascot would prove that the region was on the up, he added.
