City's bid to stem traffic snarls
Carpark queue in Norwich
Drivers are being encouraged to use Park and Ride services
Roadworks will be suspended and wardens will direct traffic in Norwich on Thursday evenings because of late night holiday shopping congestion.

Last Thursday, motorists were queued for extended periods.

The county and city have suspended all roadworks inside the outer ring road and are asking drivers to be patient.

The county council's Sam Ralph said: "Following last week's congestion, we have met with Norfolk Police to look at how we can ease the situation."

He added: "The provision of wardens is a positive initiative, but we are also appealing to motorists to make use of extended Park and Ride services to reduce the volume of traffic on an already crowded network.

"Where journeys are made by car, it's essential that drivers obey traffic signals and yellow box markings so that junctions are not blocked."

Late night Park and Ride services on Thursdays will run from 18 November to 6 January, with the last buses leaving the city centre at 2130 GMT.

Christmas lights are to be switched on in the city at 1900 GMT.
