Pressure grows on city parking

Another city centre car park has closed in Norwich.

The latest closure, after cracks were spotted, means 1,800 parking spaces have been lost in the centre of Norwich. in the past year.

Crumbling concrete has forced the closure the car park just behind City Hall, elaving many municipal staff without spaces.

Officials believe cracks in the car park, like several others which have been closed recently, were caused by salt erosion.

The salt is thrown up by passing vehicles.

Last week, a multi-storey car park in the city was closed to allow the site to be redeveloped.

Councillors said they were aware of the problems and hoped to introduce temporary parking areas within the next few months.

The closures have led to a parking crisis in the city, with long queues for motorists waiting for spaces in the remaining car parks.
